The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) have recently launched an online RHI payment calculator aimed at helping households to estimate the payments they could receive from installing a renewable heating system.

By providing some basic property details, the Renewable Heat Incentive calculator provides a comparison of potential annual return on investment between Solar Thermal Panels, Biomass, Air Source Heat Pump and Ground Source Heat Pump system installations.

If a recent Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is available, then the figures from the section about "Your home's heat demand" are all that is required in order to obtain a payment estimate.

However, if an EPC is not available (please see http://www.brightgreenrenewables.co.uk/epc-gda.aspx for more information or contact us if you would like us to arrange one for you), it is still possible to obtain an estimated payment calculation by providing details about the property, such as:

  • the type of property (e.g. detached, terraced, bungalow, mid floor flat)
  • the approximate age of the property
  • the size of the property
  • the main roof type and level of insulation
  • main wall type and level of  cavity wall insulation
  • how the property is currently heated

Based on the information provided, a payback amount is calculated per quarter, annually, and over 7 years, based on the prevailing tariff (reviewed quarterly for new Domestic RHI applicants).  All details, including suggestions as to the type of system required, are provided in an optionally downloadable PDF report for each type of renewable heating system selected so as to allow the householder to make an informed decision.

Please contact us if you would like further information about EPCs, the RHI or installing a renewable heating system.
