Home Cuts Energy Costs With Solar PV System

04 July 2012Solar Photovoltaic

Mr R works from home and has a large electricity consumption due to a heated indoor training swimming pool and air conditioning units in his working Gym.

He wanted to install a 4KW solar PV system onto one of his outbuildings in order to offset some of these electricity costs whilst benefiting from the Government’s Feed-in-Tariff scheme to help recover his investment.

The Solution

Bright Green Renewables surveyed the property, gardens and outbuildings to ascertain the best location for the 16 panel array.

A roof-mounted system was chosen on a ground floor extension as it offered the best orientation (facing South West) and had no shading from other buildings or trees. 16 off Schueco 240 Watt modules along with a Sunnyboy SMA inverter were specified.

A new 300L unvented stainless steel hot water cylinder was installed in the position of the old boiler and the existing un-insulated cylinder was decommissioned and left in the roof space.

The Installation

Over a 2-day period the installation team of trained roofers and solar PV qualified electricians installed and commissioned the 16 panel array.

The Benefits

With the Feed-in-Tariffs available at the time the financial benefits of the system were as follows:

Feed-in-tariff £662
Saving on electricity bill £347
Export tariff £49
Total £1058 per annum
